Art

'To draw, you must close your eyes and sing'
- Pablo Picasso.

We take our Arts very seriously @CCSJ.
Alongside our in class curriculum offer for all children we also have a 'Resident Artist' working daily with teachers and children to produce spectacular arts and design.
Miss Thomas works with 3 year groups per term to support teacher and children to hone their art skills, often linking in with the curriculum in each class, designing and producing high quality art across the age range.

We also curate 'ArtSpace' a specialist art group intervention working with children who need support to build their own confidence with: working in social groups, finding their voice or simply being proud of themselves at school. ArtSpace runs 3 times per week for 90 mins per day. The children are supported to design and create amazing art, connect with each other, build confidence and improve wellbeing through supported peer talk and feedback. We are pioneering this approach through 2019-2020 Miss Thomas working closely with our inclusion team. Children are nominated to the group by teachers or our inclusion team.

Miss Thomas runs a twice weekly art lunch club for children that have been selected due to their excellence in art and drawing skills. These children meet to improve their draughtsmanship, they enter competitions and have work produced, commended and win awards at local and national level.

In addition, Miss Thomas runs free after school clubs for every child in the school, working with 3 year groups each full term on 6 week cycles. In this way every child in school has the opportunity to create and develop some amazing art for their bedroom wall that they are proud of each year.
