Eco Schools

'Surely we have a responsibility to leave, for future generations, a planet that is healthy and habitable by all species'
- Sir David Attenborough.

We are an Eco School. Alongside our school allotment and gardening groups we are taking direct responsible action to reduce our carbon footprint on the earth.
We have a Eco Schools group that drive change with support of Mrs Hennessey. The group chooses one thing to work on each year.

In 2020/2021 we purchased a Nitrogen oxide and air particularts sampler and attached it to a lamp post outside of school in order to measure the Nitrogen Oxide in the air (increased by car exhaust fumes). We used this as our start point and to scientifically measure a 'before' and 'after' to show the school community how important clean air outside school is. We then encouraged walking to school through our WOW programme that we are running with Oxfordshire County Council to see if our action had had any impact. Early signs are good, an improvement in the air quality outside of school and more children are walking to school each week.

In addition to this and to support those living further away from home we are running a Cycling profficeny class for all children in Y5 and Y6. We've even bought 5 bikes for children to share so that everyone gets a go.
